At The Romsey School we currently offer training places through three different routes.
P.G.C.E through University of Southampton
Start mid-September at University of Southampton. Lectures and practicals. Late September placement school 1 for 2 days per week. After half-term school 1 for four days per week with teaching load of approx. 30%.
January – first week at University. Then start in school 2 for 4 and 5 days per week on alternate weeks with professional themes every other Friday at the university. Teaching load approx. 50%. Finish May half term then return to University for final Summer half-term. Earn master’s credits.
School Direct through S.U.P.A (Southampton University Partnership Alliance)
Start at host school on first day back for staff. Observations initially. Join PGCE course at University of Southampton when lectures begin. Follow PGCE course with first experience not in host school but host school mentor will visit during this placement. Main teaching practice is in host school. Return to university for completion of PGCE course and then finish school year in host school . Earn master’s credits.

School Direct /SCITT through LEARN Alliance (Thornden School SCITT/lead school)
Start at host school on first day back for staff. Observations initially building up to teaching. One day a week spent at Alliance schools/Lead school studying professional themes. January and February spent in school 2 teaching approx. 50% timetable. Earn master’s credits.
