Young poets from The Romsey School were delighted to be invited to perform at the recent ‘Word, Song and the Dancing Man’ event, which was part of the So: To Speak Festival in Southampton.
Megan Bowles and Suzi Poole, both Year 10 pupils and Daisy Fletcher, who left the school last year, were all star performers at the Wessex Schools Literary Festival Poetry Slam and were invited to perform at the Southampton event by Matt West, the organiser.
The students performed alongside several well-known performance poets and in front of an appreciative audience. They very much enjoyed the opportunity to present their own poems and were delighted by the audience response.
Megan said, ‘Taking part in the original poetry workshops in school with Matt has really sparked an interest in performance poetry.’ Daisy, who won the Literary Festival Poetry Slam in 2014, has already performed her poetry at the Art House in Southampton and at the Nuffield Theatre.
