A group of Romsey School pupils enjoyed a talk by popular teen author, Bali Rai recently. Bali spoke to a large group of Year 9 pupils from local schools recently at Thornden hall in Chandlers Ford. He spoke about the, sometimes controversial, content of some of his books but said he tried to portray the teenagers he wrote about in a realistic way which readers could recognise and identify with. He punctuated his talk with various amusing anecdotes from his own upbringing by Indian immigrant parents in Leicester. Many of the characters and events in his stories are based on his own experiences of attending a tough inner-city school in Leicester and several of his books touch on issues that teens may experience such as arranged marriage, gangs and the dangers present on social media. This latter topic is the theme of his latest book, Web of Terror, from which he read an excerpt. The pupils agreed afterwards that they had really enjoyed the talk and were very keen to read his books.
